Orange Lips for Non-Orange Lips Girls

I'll be the first to admit - the unexpected sunshine yesterday instantly made me whip out the more orange-toned lipsticks in my collection. It's strange, I'd never steer towards the fruity shades any other time of the year but as soon as the Vitamin C hits my face, so does a more orangey lip.

It took me a while to get into the orange lip thing. It's not something we can all pull off, especially on a day to day basis, so I thought I'd share a couple of the orange-based lipsticks I opt for when I want to play it down a little - hopefully it'll be the friendly first step towards an orange lip for any newbies!

MAC Vegas Volt

Vegas Volt looks way more intimidating in the bullet than it does on the lips so don't be too put off if you go and swatch it. I first picked this up last summer after a trip to Las Vegas (ah c'mon, it'd be rude not to!), but it took a while to brave it. It's much more of a coral-orange making it ideal to spring/summer and easy to wear on a day to day basis. It's form MAC's Amplified collection, which is my second favourite finish. It has the pigment of a Satin finish but glides on much more smoothly and doesn't look cakey.

Maybelline Coral Tonic

Coral Tonic is another that looks super scary in the bullet but isn't as scary on the lips. Coral Tonic is a little more orange than Vegas Volt. I reviewed it a long time ago here and still love the formula. It glides on and feels weightless on my lips. I also adore the smell but still for the life of me can't figure out what it is! It is quite strong though so some may be put off. Though this isn't as bright of an orange lipstick as others you can get, like MAC Morange, it still leans towards that trend and is a great way to dip your toes in the pool of orange lipsticks.

I'm wearing Mac Vegas Volt in the above picture. Make sure you scrub your lips with something like Mint Julips from Lush before applying it - bright colours always deserve a few extra minutes of preparation to show them off to their full potential! I also use a clear lip liner, mine's from The Body Shop, to prevent any bleeding. Clear liners are so useful - it saves having to buy liners in every colour to match your collection!

Will you be sporting an orange lip this summer?
