New In: Maybelline Color Elixirs & Color Drama

If there's one thing drugstore beauty brands do well it's lip products. Seriously, Revlon Lip Butters, Rimmel Moisture Renew, Bourjois Velvet Rouge and now two winners from Maybelline. We finally saw Maybelline Color Elixirs land on UK soil and then the Maybelline Color Drama pencils burst in with some sass and both are just as brilliant as each other.

I'd been wanting to get my mitts on these since Estee showed them in an overseas haul ages and ages ago and didn't even realise they'd landed until they started cropping up on Twitter. Thanks to a lovely 3 for 2 I got three to give a go. I tend to get drawn to the same shades when there's a new launch - I guess it means I can get a good idea on them as they're shades I wear a lot. From left to right on the top row of the collage Petal Plush, Fuchsia Flourish and Signature Scarlet. Petal Plush is a really pretty every day pink that's easy to wear with any makeup look. The other two, Fuchsia Flourish and Signature Scarlet, are much more statement a true bright pink and a classic Hollywood red respectively.

The formula of Maybelline Color Elixirs are insane - they really are incredible! It's a gloss but really thick, almost gel like, and when applied it feels like there's a barrier over your lips that helps lock it all into place. It's unlike anything I've tried before, not even Rimmel Apocalips, the heavy gel stays put for around 4 hours I'd say before it starts to fade but even then you have a couple more hours. If you're a glossy lip gal, get these right now.

I hadn't heard a single thing about these but last week the Maybelline Color Drama pencils started popping up on my Instagram and it didn't take me long (re: end of my shift at work that same day) to get on the bandwagon. Hailed a dupe for the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, the Maybelline Color Drama offerings are a chunky pencil with a matte finish. I like that at the end there's a ribbon of colour to represent the shade housed under the lid - the little things. In the 3 for 2 deal again, I got In With Coral,  Fab Orange and Red Essential. In With Coral is the most beautiful coral shade, it reminds me so much of a Coachella Coral from Charlotte Tilbury. Fab Orange and Red Essential are both reds but the first being more orangey and the second running much truer and deeper.

Onto the formula... oh my these are good. I love a matte lip but know full well most can be fairly drying and uncomfortable to wear - not these badboys! They literally glide on the lips flawlessly, are super creamy and no bother to apply. Wear time is incredible, a good 5 hours, and the pigmentation is really impressive - opaque in one swipe. I like the pencil, it means you can line the lips nicely before filling everything in. I'm just unsure how I'm going to sharpen them as my sharpeners are either too narrow or too large...

Overall, these are two incredible drugstore launches that really do deserve a look over next time you're in either Boots or Superdrug. Both offer a decent range of shades including some deeper berries for the upcoming autumn... I have no doubt I'll be adding to my collection soon!

Have you tried either of these yet?
