I think it's safe to say we've all got those few products that were pretty darn pricey, limited edition or we simply treasure so much we're terrified of using them! When Tati (Glam Life Guru - what a babe!) spoke about the fact we avoid using so many products because they cost too much or something it rang so true with me I thought I'd grab a few bits that I know I avoid using for one reason or another. Items I adore but am terrified of using up!
RiRi Hearts MAC 'Her Cocoa' quad (LE)
I found myself obsessed with this quad as soon as the promo pics for the collection came out and quickly snapped it up as soon as it came available online. Not only is it the greatest packaging I've ever seen but the shades are ideal for creating such a wearable look. It's crazy that I think I've only used this once. Once! What is wrong with me?! The shades are perfect for every day and so buttery soft that they blend beautifully. But, because it was limited edition, I'm terrified of using it up and being left without it... what's the point is spending hard earned cash if you're not going to enjoy it?
MAC 'I ♥ U' Plushglass
I picked this beauty up at the outlet store in Bicester Village a long while ago and was so obsessed when I found it. I was going through a lilac lips phase - which will be brought back in coming weeks - and saw this online but soon realised it wasn't available anymore. So, I was overjoyed when I found it there and at a cheaper price. I have actually used this quite a bit but really don't want to use it up because I've never found anything like it since to replace it! Any suggestions?
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick 'Riviera' link
Hourglass is one of those brands that I think I'll always be in awe of - so pricey yet beautiful and totally out of reach for a regular basis. I brought this back home after a trip to Vegas last summer but am yet to really enjoy wearing it. I've worn it a few times but again, because it cost so much and it's tiny, I'm wary of using it up. Another stupid reasoning seeing as it'll only go to waste otherwise! It's so pretty and one of the best matte lipstick products I've ever had - it definitely deserves a few more outings.
Estee Lauder 'Bronze Goddess' link
This is one of the ones I've actually got better at using. I first bought this from the summer collection last year at the airport before my holiday to Portugal and wore it none stop during that week or so. However, because it only comes out once a year, and it's not exactly cheap, I suddenly realised I'd been a little over zealous with it and it was running out! I held off using it until I could repurchase it this summer which is crazy - I could have been smelling and coconutty and cocktaily for way longer had I just manned up and used the bloomin' thing!
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 'L'Eclatante 42' link
Ohh Chanel. Chanel. I could easily leave it there for my justification for not using it - c'mon, they're so expensive! - but I really should slap myself on the wrist for this one. I handed over £25 to the cashier almost a year ago and have used this twice. TWICE. What on earth?! Granted, the shade is more suited to my skin tone when I have a bit of a tan but still, the main reason I've not used it is because it's damn Chanel and I want to treasure it. The lesson I've learned from this - if you're buying Chanel, buy a shade you'll wear every single day.
I still don't know if I'll ever break this whole 'I'm saving that for a special occasion' thing but I'm going to actively try and use these items more from now on! Why do we do it to ourselves? We've earned that money, we've spent that money now we should enjoy whatever it is we've bought instead of leaving it in a draw to gather dust and eventually go bad. C'mon ladies - get them limited edition, overpriced goodies out and have a play!
Do you have any items like this that you just can't bring yourself to use?
Ax
This is so true!
ReplyDeleteI bought Omorovicza's Deep Cleansing Mask (managed to get it 30% off for Black Friday, but still... $84 for less than 2 oz of product) and realized after 6 months of owning it that although I do use it, I don't use enough of it each time. I take the tiniest little dabs to apply to my whole face and have used barely any of it. It will go bad in another six months especially since it's in a jar.
I'd honestly rather enjoy it while it's still good than ration it so much that I end up with half a jar of product that I have to throw out in six months.
Thanks for writing this post because now I know that I have some makeup products that deserve a little less love and a little more use, too (namely my Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Icon and my bright orange Chanel lipstick).
